A town centre Post Office is looking for a new home after the shop it operates from announced it was closing.

TGJones on Westgate Street in Ipswich announced earlier in the week the lease on the building had not been renewed and the store would be closing in June.

The Post Office has a branch on the upper floor of the shop and also confirmed this would be shutting at about the same time.

A spokesperson said it was in discussions with other retailers but any move would be subject to a consultation.

"Regrettably, the lease for the Ipswich TGJones store, where the Post Office is located, is coming to an end," they explained.

"As a suitable new lease has not been agreed, the Post Office and store are closing at this location on Tuesday, 9 June at 17:30 BST.

"We know how important a Post Office is to a community. The vacancy has been advertised, and we have had interest from many retailers."

In 2017, the Post Office Ipswich branch moved from Sailmakers shopping centre into the WH Smith store, which later became TGJones.

A TGJones spokesperson added: "We can confirm that we will be exiting our store in Ipswich in June.

"We are working hard to support colleagues that will be affected by this."
