Man arrested over 'sophisticated' operation to grow 300 cannabis plants
PSNIA man has been arrested after police discovered about 300 cannabis plants in County Armagh.
Police made the discovery of the plants, which were growing across rooms in outbuildings and sheds at a property in the Moy Road area of Portadown, at approximately 19:15 BST on Wednesday.
When the officers arrived a man attempted to make off from the scene after coming out of a static caravan located in the area.
A 32-year-old was detained a short time later, and arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug, cultivating cannabis, possession of a Class B controlled drug, and dishonestly using electricity. Police described the operation as "sophisticated and well organised".
Police estimate they recovered about 300 plants, along with other items, from the premises which will undergo further forensic examination.
"This substantial quantity of drugs has now been prevented from reaching our streets and what appears to be a well-organised operation has been dismantled," Insp Connolly said.
"Cannabis farms such as these often have links to serious and organised crime gangs. By shutting down this grow, we have helped to stop criminality in its tracks," Connolly added.
"We will continue to be relentless in our commitment to tackle the illegal supply and use of drugs, and will continue to investigate those who profit from the consequent misery and harm."
