'Most bashed bridge' struck by lorry again
GoogleA railway bridge once named "Britain's most bashed" has been struck by a lorry.
Leicestershire Police said at 05:52 BST on Sunday that A5 Watling Street near Hinckley was closed between Dodwells Road and the Nutts Lane roundabout after a lorry crashed into the bridge.
The railway bridge has been struck by tall vehicles more than 25 times since March 2025.
Developer Mountpark agreed to lower the road under the bridge when it was granted planning permission to build a large logistics park nearby in June 2023, and said it wanted to start the work in May.
However, Network Rail confirmed it has still not approved the proposal to lower the road under the bridge by 51cm (1.67ft) to create more clearance for tall vehicles.
