Man dies after car and tractor collide

A teenager has been arrested after a man died when the car he was travelling in collided with a tractor trailer near Selby.

The crash happened on the A163 at Barlby, near the junction with Whitemoor Lane, at 19:30 BST on Monday, North Yorkshire Police said.

A blue Range Rover SVR collided with the rear of a trailer loaded with hay bales being towed by a Massey Ferguson tractor.

A 19-year-old man who was travelling in the Range Rover was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second 19-year-old man who was also in the Range Rover remains in hospital. A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

The driver of the tractor was taken to hospital following the collision and is helping officers with their inquiries.

The A163 was closed for most of Monday night as officers conducted investigation work at the scene.
