Teenagers arrested over fire at building

Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a large fire that has closed roads in a town centre.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service was called to Fenkle Street in Alnwick at 21:00 BST on Sunday.

Crews from five appliances worked throughout the night to make sure the blaze did not spread to any adjoining buildings.

Firefighters were at the scene earlier to damp down hotspots, and drivers have been warned disruption is likely to continue throughout the day.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At the current time, the fire is being treated as arson and last night, two teenage boys were arrested in connection with the incident.

"They currently remain in police custody."
