A group of males wearing balaclavas forced a bus to stop before throwing bricks at it, police said.

A teenage boy has been arrested after a nine-month-old baby was injured when a brick was thrown at a bus in Liverpool.

It happened near Alder Hey Children's Hospital at about 22:10 GMT on Friday.

Police were called to reports that a group of males dressed in black and wearing balaclavas had dragged a large piece of wood onto East Prescot Road, forcing the bus to stop.

Merseyside Police said the group then threw bricks at the vehicle and smashed a window, causing cuts to the face and head of the baby boy, who was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

He has been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries.

Officers also spoke to five other males at the scene.
