Rapist loses appeal against 12-year jail sentence
GoogleA man jailed after he was found guilty of two counts of rape has had an appeal against his sentence dismissed.
Shane Ryan Brooks was last year convicted by a jury of the attack against a girl in Maidenhead in January 2021.
Brooks appealed his 12-year sentence at the Court of Appeal but judges disagreed that the sentence he was given at Reading Crown Court in April 2025 was "manifestly excessive".
A man co-accused with Brooks died before he could be tried, Lady Justice Yip told the appeal last month.
The prosecution said Brooks and his co-accused "plied the complainants with drink" and then each engaged in non-consensual sexual activity.
