A man has been jailed for causing the death of a pensioner he pushed over during an argument at a bus stop outside a supermarket in Leeds.

Thomas Childe, 24, of Oak Crescent, Garforth, was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison at Leeds Crown Court on Friday after admitting manslaughter.

Colin Starbuck, 79, had a heart attack and died after the incident outside the Tesco store on Aberford Road, Garforth, on 29 October 2025. Police concluded the confrontation had contributed to his death.

Childe was arrested after officers identified him from CCTV footage and was initially charged with murder. He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

West Yorkshire Police said Mr Starbuck was treated by emergency services at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he died later that day.

Det Supt Matt Holdsworth, said: "The investigation conducted by our officers was able to prove that Childe was responsible for causing the needless death of Mr Starbuck, whose family are still coming to terms with their sudden loss.

"I hope today's outcome will give them some comfort as they try to move forwards with their lives."
