Clive Hartley was found guilty following a week-long trial

A York man has been jailed for 14 years for the rape of a girl under the age of 16 in the 1990s.

Clive Michael Hartley, 68, was sentenced on Thursday after he was found guilty of two counts of rape at York Crown Court.

Hartley's victim reported the offences to North Yorkshire Police in May 2024.

She said in a statement read to the court: "What he did to me as a child did not end then. It has affected every part of my life for decades. I am still dealing with the consequences today."

Det Con Ebony Wonnacott, the investigating officer for the case, said: "This has been a long journey for the victim in order to secure her deserved justice.

"I hope this case shows other survivors of abuse that the police are here for you, regardless of when the abuse took place."
