Two dogs were struck by a vehicle that did not stop, police said

A dog has died following a hit-and-run collision in Leicestershire.

The Coalville policing team said two bichon frise dogs were involved in the crash on the A511 "in the early hours" of Monday.

Neighbourhood officer PC Scarlett Wright said one of the dogs died after it was struck by a vehicle, while the second "remained with it at the scene until a passing member of the public alerted police".

Both were taken to a local vet, said police, who called for witnesses who saw the dogs or the collision to come forward.
