People who were told to leave their homes after a suspected unexploded piece of World War Two ordnance was discovered have been allowed to return.

Derbyshire Police said a cordon was put in place in Glossop town centre on Sunday after the ordnance was found in a garden in Chapel Street.

It said a "number of homes" were evacuated as a precaution while it awaited the arrival of the Army's bomb disposal team.

The force said Army disposal experts found the ordnance did not contain explosives.
