Sussex Police cordoned off an area by Shelter Hall on the seafront after the incident

A teenage boy was stabbed on Brighton seafront next to a crowded beach on bank holiday Monday, police have said.

Sussex Police said it received reports of a large group of people fighting in the area of Shelter Hall food court, on Kings Road Arches, at about 21:30 BST.

The victim, a boy from Surrey, was taken to hospital for treatment, where his injuries were confirmed to be superficial.

Det Insp Jen Pietersen, of Brighton CID, said: "We know the beach was extremely crowded at the time of this incident and we're urging anyone who can assist in our inquiries to please come forward."

She said investigators would "like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or captured any relevant footage".
