Pubs and bars can open late for World Cup matches
ReutersPubs and bars in Jersey can apply to stay open past the usual closing time to allow islanders to watch World Cup games, the Bailiff's Chambers has said.
The Bailiff's Chambers said it was working with members of the industry, the States police and honorary police to allow matches with a scheduled start of no later than 23:00 BST to be screened, with last orders at 01:30 and a closing time of 02:00.
Licensed premises applying for the extension must screen scheduled World Cup matches for that day and not replay them.
The World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams and is being held from 11 June until 19 July in three host countries - Canada, Mexico and the USA.
The games are due to start between 17:00 and 05:00 GMT.
If the premises exceeds a capacity of 60 people, it must provide door staff registered by the Justice and Home Affairs Department to "account for and manage the possibility of patrons drinking for a prolonged period".
"Such activity may result in disorderly behaviour, during times that are outside of usual bar operation," the Bailiff's Chambers said.
It added that venues could apply for the extension for free via the Bailiff's Chambers through the usual process.
