Teenager charged with preparing terror act

A teenager has appeared in court accused of preparing to commit an act of terrorism.

The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit said it arrested the 17-year-old boy from Hatfield, Hertfordshire, on 21 April.

According to the force he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday to face a charge of engaging in conduct in preparation of an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

It said he was remanded into custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 5 June.

He was also charged with two counts of disseminating terrorist publications and individual charges of the collection of terrorist information and possessing an indecent image of a child, police said.
