Woodhouse Trinity Methodist Church, in Sheffield, has stood empty for nearly 15 years

A community group has launched a fundraising campaign to help save a local church that has stood empty for almost 15 years.

The Woodhouse and District Community Forum (WDCF) want to turn the former Trinity Methodist Church, in Chapel Street, Sheffield, into a community theatre, arts, events and social space.

The group say they have agreed a purchase price of £125,000 and now have six months to raise the money.

Chairman Jack Taylor said the current owner, Barry Moss, had pledged £25,000 as a charitable donation to the appeal.

Working in partnership with Darnall Musical Theatre Company, WDCF hope to raise the remaining £100,000 through a crowdfunding campaign

Taylor said: "Following the purchase and planning/heritage permissions being in place which we would then move forward with a four-year development plan to restore renovate and transform this beautiful building."

Posting on their online fundraising page, the group said: "This is more than just saving a building. It's about bringing a forgotten space back to life and creating a lasting home for arts, culture, friendship, wellbeing, community activities, and local pride in Woodhouse for generations to come.

"Together, we can transform an historic building that has stood silent for nearly 15 years into a thriving space once again — filled with music, laughter, creativity, conversation, and community life."
