Guernsey beat Jersey 2-1 to win the Muratti Vase, the first win on Jersey soil in 12 years

The chief executive of the Jersey Football Association Tim Pryor said he is disappointed after some fans "crossed the line" after the Muratti Vase match.

There was a pitch invasion, a wheelie bin thrown and flares and smoke bombs let off after Guernsey beat Jersey 2-1 to win the trophy for the second successive year.

BBC sports reporter Brent Pilnick, who was commentating on the match, said after full time a group of Guernsey fans ran onto the pitch to congratulate their players, but a small handful broke off from the celebrations to "goad" Jersey fans.

Pryor said: "I think part of what makes the Muratti special is that rivalry but there's the rivalry and then there's going too far."

He added: "I know the police will take a look at what's happened there ... it sort of leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth at the end just to see some of those scenes."

Pilnick said that at the conclusion of the match at Springfield Stadium, some fans exchanged blows and a "large green bin was thrown" back and forth and a "couple of Jersey fans jumped out from behind the hoardings and then had a fight with the Guernsey fans".

"Then stewards stepped in to separate them and pull them apart before the police came onto the field soon after," he added.

'Crossed the line'

Pryor added: "I think it was a good atmosphere ... until a few people that aren't as classy as the rest of them decided to chuck flares and have a scrap at the end.

"I got sent a few photos of some burnt patches [on the pitch], I haven't seen them for myself.

"Ultimately, it's not our pitch but I would think a bill was probably coming our way for that.

"We'll have to try and work with the police to look at who it was that was doing that and has caused damage to [what is] a government facility at the end of the day."

He added: "You want it to be lively, but it's just disappointing that it crossed the line."
