New chapter for £3.3m revamped library

A library has reopened following a £3.3m refurbishment with council chiefs boasting of a new chapter for the venue.

Cumberland Council claimed the work at Carlisle Library in The Lanes shopping centre had turned it into a "modern, welcoming space for learning, creativity and community connection".

It includes a new children's zone, study space and adult learning classrooms along with meeting areas and digital services.

Having welcomed visitors back for the first time on Tuesday after being closed for months, celebration events are being staged across the week including story sessions, crafts and children's face painting.
