A road has been closed after a large fire broke out at a flat in a seaside town.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it sent six fire engines to tackle the blaze at the property on Dover Road, near Grove Road, Folkestone, at about 13:30 BST.

People in the area were told to keep windows and doors shut due to the smoke but that advice was lifted at about 16:00, when five fire engines and a height vehicle remained at the scene.

Kent Police said its officers were still present at about 16:55 while a section of Dover Road outside the building was closed.

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information.
