Safety warning after children spotted at lake
Leicestershire PolicePolice have issued a safety warning in response to reports of young people playing by a lake.
Leicestershire Police posted the warning on social media after being alerted to groups being "on and around" Albert Village Lake, near Boothorpe, with officers describing it as "very cold, deep, and unpredictable".
It comes after a spell of record-breaking hot weather saw several deaths at water spots around the UK, including a 19-year-old man at Balderton Lake in Nottinghamshire.
Police said playing near Albert Village Lake "may seem harmless" but it was actually "extremely dangerous and puts lives at serious risk".
The post added: "With the warmer weather, it's tempting to cool off in open water - but lakes and canals are not safe places to swim or play.
"Albert Village Lake may look calm but the water is often very cold, deep, and unpredictable.
"Cold water shock can happen in seconds, even on a hot day.
"It can cause an immediate loss of control over breathing and movement - and it can be fatal."
