A man has suffered "life-changing" injuries in a suspected shooting in Doncaster, police said.

Officers were called to South Street in the Highfields area at about 18:20 BST on Monday following reports a man was shot while walking on parkland.

The 34-year-old man remains in hospital with serious injuries, South Yorkshire Police said.

Officers believe the incident could be linked to a firearms discharge reported earlier on Monday in the Scawthorpe area, and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Det Insp Matthew Barnes said: "This serious incident took place in broad daylight in an area frequented by the local community, putting innocent people at risk of being caught up in an offender's actions.

"During the time of the incident, it is believed a grey Land Rover Discovery was nearby at the time and we would like to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle and its occupants.

"We believe this could be the missing piece we need to assist us with our investigation."
