Air ambulance team to walk five marathons in five days
KSSAir ambulance staff and volunteers are to walk five marathons in five days to raise funds for the charity.
A team of four from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) leave from its base in Rochester, Kent, on Monday and are due to complete the challenge at Redhill Aerodrome in Surrey on Friday.
Volunteer Warren Porritt is to take on the 131-mile (211km) walk ten years after the air ambulance came to his aid after a crash with a car while riding a motorcycle.
"Taking on this challenge feels like a way of celebrating being here and saying thank you," Porritt said.
He will be joined by Sophy Dunn, Helene Poursain and Dr Duncan Bootland.
Their journey will take them through Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Lewes, Brighton and Dorking across the five days.
Dunn said that the challenge "sounds simple until you start doing the miles".
"It's about more than the distance; it's about showing what's possible, even when life throws limitations at you, and raising awareness of the incredible work KSS does," she said.
Bootland, the charity's executive medical director, said: "This is about supporting each other, rising to a challenge and showing what team KSS is all about.
"It's going to be tough, but it's absolutely worth it."
Funds raised from the challenge will support the charity's work across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
KSS has previously warned about the financial impact of rising aviation fuel costs since the beginning of the current conflict in the Middle East.
