Burglar jailed after CCTV linked him to crime spree
Leicestershire PoliceA burglar has been jailed after CCTV captured him raiding businesses in a series of disguises.
Leicestershire Police said Shawn Tulley targeted five restaurants, a children's nursery twice, a community centre and a playcentre in the Leicester area.
Footage showed the 43-year-old, of no fixed address, trying to conceal his identity with various hats, falling over at one point and trying to cover a CCTV camera.
Tulley was jailed on Thursday at Leicester Crown Court for two years and four months after pleading guilty to six counts of burglary, two of attempted burglary and two of damaging property.
Police said his actions resulted in businesses and some community premises picking up the bill for damages worth thousands.
In one burglary, at a restaurant in St Martin's Square, he took two iPads, a laptop and two bottles of alcohol.
He was arrested after members of the public reported suspicious behaviour.
Sgt Sian Harris-Ley, from East Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area, said: "Within one week, he targeted the same premises twice. On the first occasion, he caused more than £1,000 worth of damage but didn't gain entry.
"During the second incident, he did manage to break in and stole iPads and laptops."
Food and drink were emptied on to the kitchen floor, a carpet was ripped up and internal windows damaged to gain access to the office area, she added.
"Tulley has absolutely no regard for the devastation he leaves and the impact his actions have on these essential community services.
"He is a persistent offender who has shown no remorse for his actions."
