Tens of thousands expected at agricultural show

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the Newbury Show over the weekend.

Attractions at the two-day agricultural event, which will be held at the Newbury Showground, will include livestock shows, rural crafts and have-a-go activities.

The annual event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic before it returned in 2023.

Organisers said they wanted to present the "very best of British agriculture and countryside to the general public".

The show will open at 08:30 BST on both days. Trade stands will close at 18:00 on Saturday and at 17:00 on Sunday.

Luke Mercy, a West Berkshire cattle farmer, will be attending and said he would be catching up with friends.

"We go showing because of the social side. With farming, it's a very isolating industry. It's the same people that go to a lot of the shows," he said.

"With us travelling around the country, we have people in different parts of the country. I'd say I have more friends around the country than I have in a 20-mile radius of home. It's like an extended family. Everyone pulls together."
