Lifeguard cover reduced as summer season ends
Joe Sene/PA WireBeachgoers are being reminded that lifeguard patrol times are set to change as the summer season ends.
The RNLI said patrols would change at beaches across Devon, Cornwall and Jersey in the coming weeks, with some sites moving to weekend-only cover, and encouraged anyone visiting the coast to choose a lifeguarded beach and check the conditions before heading into the water.
RNLI regional lifeguard lead Henry Saddler-Irvine thanked lifeguards and support teams for their work during what he described as a busy summer.
"They have demonstrated professionalism, resilience and teamwork every day, often in challenging conditions, to help keep people safe along our coastline," he said.
Which beaches will be patrolled?
The RNLI said weekend-only patrols would operate on Bantham, Croyde and Woolacombe beach in Devon between 28 September to 18 October and during the October half-term.
In Cornwall, weekend-only patrols would operate across the same time period on Tregonhawke, Praa Sands, Crantock, Towan, Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth, Porthtowan, Chapel Porth, Gwithian North, Hayle Towans, Constantine, Harlyn, Polzeath, Widemouth and Summerleaze.
Full-time daily patrols will continue until 1 November at Fistral, Perranporth, Porthmeor and Sennen.
In Jersey, weekend-only patrols will operate on Le Braye between 28 September to 18 October and during the October half-term.
