A major scheme to improve a Lancashire town centre is set to begin on Monday, as part of the Levelling Up East Lancashire programme.

Lancashire County Council said improvements to Bank Street in Rawtenstall, were intended to make a "safer, more attractive and accessible" environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

Preparatory work has also started at Hall Carr estate, where works will help make it easier and safer for people to travel between homes, jobs, shops and services.

The work - which will be temporarily suspended at both sites over the Christmas period - is part of a wider £55 million programme of improvements across East Lancashire.

Councillor Warren Goldsworthy said: "Once complete, the improvements will create a more welcoming and accessible town centre that residents, businesses and visitors can enjoy for years to come."
