Man accused of wife's murder faces trial

An 80-year-old man accused of murdering his wife at their home has been told when he could face trial.

Paramedics called police to an address on Junction Road in Ashford, Surrey shortly after 14:00 BST on 22 May following the unexpected death of 78-year-old Jill Ellis, police said.

Her husband David Ellis was charged with murder on 30 June.

Guildford Crown Court heard on Thursday that a plea hearing for Ellis was scheduled for 2 November with a potential trial due to begin in January.
