Discovery of hazardous chemicals in home shuts roads
ReutersRoads remain closed near a house in north Derbyshire where hazardous chemicals "related to photography" were found.
The chemicals were discovered during a house clearance at the home of the owner who died in non-suspicious circumstances, Derbyshire Police said.
Officers attended Manchester Road, between Buxton and Whaley Bridge, at about 11:30 BST on Monday, the force added.
The A5004 Long Hill from Buxton to Whaley Bridge, Old Road at the junction with Lesser Lane, and the access route from Elnor Lane to Long Hill, were closed while police and the Army's explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) attended, with closures still in place on Tuesday morning.
A police spokesperson said: "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the substances, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
"The chemicals are being removed from the property this morning and will be destroyed by EOD, by way of a controlled explosion.
"The roads will be reopened once the EOD have completed the disposal of the chemicals."
