Gas and roadworks combined to cut disruption

Essential gas and resurfacing work due to start in Hull this week has been coordinated to reduce disruption for residents, the council has said.

Hull City Council and Northern Gas Networks (NGN) have combined gas connection works at the former East Riding Hotel pub, at the junction of Bridlington Avenue and Cannon Street, with carriageway resurfacing in the same location.

Council and NGN representatives said merging the schemes would avoid two separate periods of disruption and reduce the impact on local people.

The planned works are due to start on 21 September and are scheduled to be completed by 2 October.

NGN, which delivers gas to 2.9 million homes and businesses across the North of England, will complete the gas work between 21 and 27 of September.

The council said there will be a road closure at the junction of Bridlington Avenue and Cannon Street, which will remain in place for the road resurfacing work between 28 September and 2 October.

The authority said a diversion route would be in place, and access will be maintained for residents and bin collections will continue as normal.
