A ghost story and mystery set in the Welsh countryside and inspired by real events has been commissioned as a new BBC drama.

The Witch Farm, written and created by Danny Robins, originally ran as a paranormal podcast.

It tells the story behind the haunting of a remote Welsh farmhouse after a couple leave London for Heol Fanog, in the foothills of the Bannau Brycheiniog, determined to make a fresh start.

The series will feature Port Talbot-born actor Gabrielle Creevy, of Black Doves and The Guest, as well as Showtrial's Michael Socha.

Set in 1989, the series follows Bill and Liz Rich as the isolation of their new home becomes increasingly chilling after a traumatic home birth.

A steady escalation of unexplained disturbances occur and there is a unsettling sense that they are not alone.

The four-part series follows the couple as they investigate, the house draws them deeper in a history that tests the boundaries of their marriage as they are put through tests of trust, belief and survival.

Robins, who has become a leading voice in the UK on all things paranormal, said the evolution into a TV drama will take viewers on an "emotional rollercoaster that will have you gripped, moved and spine-tingled."

"Get ready for a supernatural thriller that plays out as the most deliciously dark detective story," he added.

He said the making of he original podcast series was an "exciting thrill ride" that came close to answering the question whether ghosts exist.
