Woman remains critical after fatal pursuit collision

A woman remains in a critical condition after a police pursuit in Stratford-upon-Avon which saw one man die and two women injured.

The 19-year-old driver of a black Audi failed to stop for officers on Birmingham Road shortly before 17:30 BST on Monday, Warwickshire Police said.

He was pursued by officers for about six minutes before colliding with a white Ford Puma on the on the A439 Warwick Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, a woman aged in her 60s, was taken to hospital in a critical condition where she remains. A second woman, a passenger in the Puma, was treated for minor injuries.

Another driver went to hospital for further assessment, but his injuries were not believed to be serious.

Two other cars were thought to be damaged because of the collision, with several others reporting damage from the pursuit, the force said.

"As is mandatory with a death following police contact, we referred ourselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)," a spokesperson said.

"The IOPC has declared an independent investigation, and we will continue to fully co-operate with their investigation."
