Two killed as car leaves road and crashes into trees

The incident happened on the A228 Pembury Northern Bypass, between Tonbridge Road and Old Church Road

Two people have died after their car left a road and crashed into trees in a woodland in Kent.

Emergency services were called after reports that a silver Renault Megane had left the A228 Pembury Northern Bypass near Pembury at about 11:45 BST on Monday.

The driver, a 64-year-old man, was found dead at the scene. His female passenger, 60, was airlifted to a London hospital where she later died, police said.

Their next of kin have been informed.

The pair were both from the local area, police added.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, which happened between Tonbridge Road and Old Church Road, or who has relevant dashcam footage is urged to contact the force.
