The condition of the road has left locals scratching their heads

Resurfacing work in a residential street in Cardiff has left a few scratching their heads after potholes and cracks were left running down the middle of the road.

Only two kerbside strips of Pentre Place in Grangetown were repaired after contractors had left.

The middle of a road was untouched and is still covered in potholes and cracks down the majority of its length.

Cardiff Council said resurfacing could not be completed after an abandoned car blocked access to the middle of the road. But it said contractors would return to finish the job in the coming weeks.

Potholes and the general conditions of the roads have been a hot topic in Cardiff with council spending on repairs roads reaching a decade-high point last year.

In 2025, as revealed by a freedom of information request, the council spent over £5.7m on road surfacing, £72,469 on potholes, and over £1.5m on patching up.

This is an increase on 2024 which saw the council spend nearly £3m on surfacing, £48,484 on potholes, and one million pounds on patching.

A spokesman from Cardiff Council said the work was part of a wider regeneration scheme on Grangetown.

"This includes resurfacing on both roads as well as providing new paving, new bollards, and new lining for resident parking bays so that a new zonal parking system can be implemented to give residents a better opportunity to park their vehicle close to their home."

The council added the resurfacing could not be completed after an abandoned car blocked access to the middle of the road, which links Penarth Road with Pentre Gardens.

"The contractor is due to return in the coming weeks to complete the remaining work on Pentre Place."
