Takeaway told to improve after electrocution risk
LDRSA takeaway has been told to make "major improvements" after a list of issues was found, including a microwave posing an electrocution risk by being perched on a draining board.
Seaside Tandoori in Redcar was handed a score of one out of five by food hygiene inspectors at Redcar and Cleveland Council following a recent visit.
A report found issues with cleanliness at the Lord Street premises, and owners were issued with a "major improvement required" notice.
A representative for the takeaway said improvements had been made with a view to obtaining a new rating.
The council report said the microwave had been placed on a piece of wood on top of a draining board and was "moved immediately" to prevent splashes from a sink.
A letter by a council inspector, which was seen by the Local Democracy Reporting service, said the floor throughout was dirty and the standard of cleaning generally was insufficient.
Dirty areas extended to sinks, handles of fridges and freezers, oven range controls and the walls, floors and ceiling of the staff toilet, the inspector said.
"Staff indicated the same cloths were being used for the cleaning of raw and ready to eat contact surfaces, presenting the risk of contamination," the inspection report said.
The inspector said the premises were in structural disrepair, including holes in the ceiling and walls that were damaged, exposing bare plaster.
The inspector also said there had been a lack of documented food safety management procedures and current monitoring records.
No contraventions were identified regarding provision of allergen information to customers, or the description given to food being sold, the report said.
