Driver arrested after pedestrian dies in crash

A man has been arrested after a fatal road crash involving a pedestrian in Shropshire.

Emergency services were called to the crash, which involved an orange Renault Arkana, on the A49 near the A4113 junction in Bromfield at about 13:30 BST on Saturday.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was treated by paramedics at the scene but died from her injuries, West Mercia Police said.

A 54-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving had since been released under investigation, officers added.

A force spokesperson appealed for witnesses to the crash or anyone with dashcam footage that could assist the investigation to get in contact.
