Durham Police warned people not to drink and drive

A police force has arrested 58 people for drink and drug driving offences during the World Cup so far.

Durham Police has been carrying extra random stops since the tournament began, with hundreds of drivers tested.

It said it had arrested 24 drug drivers and 18 drink drivers since 11 June following these checks.

Sgt Sarah Manser previously said: "Please just don't drink and drive, it's just as simple as that."

The drink drive limit in England is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Over the last month, the force said it had arrested a 43-year-old woman involved in a crash over four times this limit and a 49-year-old who had scored similarly.

It said these drivers now faced court dates where they could potentially lose their licences and jobs.
