'Strong smell' as children urinate in park after toilets shut
GoogleChildren are being taken to urinate outside a popular park building because nearby public toilets remain closed, a councillor has said.
Llangollen town councillor Lee Todd said he had received repeated reports about the situation at Riverside Park.
He said the lack of facilities had led to a "strong smell of urine" around the area, which is popular with families and visitors.
Denbighshire council said the toilets had been closed because of technical issues and would reopen at weekends and during the summer holidays.
Todd said: "Unfortunately, I am receiving regular reports that, due to the lack of available toilet facilities, parents are having to take young children around the side of the building to relieve themselves.
"This is now causing a strong smell of urine in the area, which is unpleasant for families using the park and for customers visiting the nearby café.
"Following further reports today, I have written to Denbighshire County Council asking why the toilets have still not been repaired and requesting an update on when they will be brought back into use.
"Riverside Park is one of Llangollen's most popular family attractions and having suitable toilet facilities available is important for both residents and visitors."
A spokesman for the council said it planned a full refurbishment of the toilets in the autumn.
