18-year-old dies on Duke of Edinburgh expedition

An 18-year-old has died in the River Wye during a Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award expedition.

Police confirmed his body was recovered after a search following reports that a "male had entered the water and could not be located" at Glasbury, Powys, on Tuesday at 18:30 BST.

The DofE Awards is a national programme which encourages personal development in young people.

"Our thoughts are with the young person's family, together with all those who were taking part," it said.

"We will do everything we can to support them at this difficult time."

Dyfed-Powys Police said mountain rescue volunteers, firefighters and National Police Air Service were involved in the search.
