Work to repair bridge in poor condition set to begin
Leicester City CouncilA four-month project to repair a bridge in Leicester is set to begin in September.
Leicester City Council said the Ocean Road bridge over Bushby Brook required "extensive maintenance" to repair and replace sections that were in a poor condition.
The scheme, which starts on 1 September, is expected to take about 16 weeks to complete, and the affected section of Ocean Road will be closed in both directions to allow the work to be carried out safely.
The council added that diversion routes would be clearly signposted and pedestrian access would be maintained, although some temporary restrictions may be necessary.
According to the council, the work will involve the demolition and replacement of the reinforced concrete bridge deck, repairs to brickwork and concrete, replacement ironwork, and the resurfacing of the road.
It said the work would be carried out in two phases, with the bridge refurbishment taking about 14 weeks to complete, with a further two weeks required for the resurfacing programme.
The council said the £366,000 scheme was funded by the government.
Assistant city mayor Geoff Whittle said: "We apologise for the inconvenience and thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience while work is under way."
