Private school to admit girls for first time in 500 years
Getty ImagesA 500-year-old private school in Surrey has announced that it will start accepting female pupils.
Royal Grammar School (RGS) Guildford and its prep school said girls will be welcomed with a phased entry from September 2027.
RGS, which costs £8,790 per term for year seven to sixth form pupils, said it was in "high demand" and "flourishing".
The school said the move was not linked to the recent introduction of VAT on independent school fees.
The school's alumni include Terry Jones, a member of Monty Python, Simon Bird, who played Will in the Inbetweeners comedy series and the football commentator Martin Tyler.
