Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a hotel in Liverpool city centre.

The woman in her 40s, who has not been named, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at the hotel on James Street at about 03:20 BST on Saturday, Merseyside Police said.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the results have been withheld awaiting toxicology reports.

A 47-year-old man from Kirkby and a 34-year-old woman from Liverpool have been arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 31-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, the force said.

All three have been conditionally bailed while investigations continue.
