Plans to expand a school in a Leicestershire town have been granted approval.

A new two-storey teaching block and additional car parking have been approved at the "popular and oversubscribed" Welland Park Academy in Market Harborough.

Planning officers at Harborough District Council, who approved the scheme, heard the school is expected to take an extra 150 students over the next five years.

The new teaching block will have general teaching classrooms, with offices, stores and toilets, plans said.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service said the building would include two internal staircases and a platform lift, and a canopy to provide a "sheltered route" between the buildings.

Solar panels will be installed on the new building's flat roof.
