Police in Guernsey will be conducting spot checks on drivers as part of Road Safety Week.

Guernsey Police said its focus throughout the week would be the roadworthiness of vehicles, and pursuing drivers who fail to register their vehicles properly.

The force said people could expect to see officers and mechanics stop-checking vehicles to check their registration status, with a particular focus on commercial vehicles.

Road Safety week is between 16 and 22 November.

People living in Guernsey can only legally drive an imported vehicle on Guernsey roads for 48 hours without registering it, the police said.

It added those who have moved to Guernsey could legally drive an imported vehicle for 14 days.

A person found guilty on summary conviction of driving an unregistered motor vehicle would be liable to a fine not exceeding £2,000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or to both a fine and imprisonment, according to Guernsey Police.
