There are plans to bring the now-empty showroom back into use

A former carpet showroom could become a music rehearsal and recording studio.

Monument Studios wants to transform the empty Houghton Carpet Centre, at the back of Mautland Street, in Houghton-le-Spring, near Sunderland.

Proposals show four studio spaces arranged over two floors and a control room.

According to a noise assessment, impact would be low if several measures are put in place, including ceiling insulation lining the walls and having buffer zones between the studios.

The development is expected to create one full-time and one part-time job.

It would be open from 10:00 to 22:00 during the week, 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays and 10:00 to 20:00 on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

A decision on the plan is expected following a consultation.
