A redevelopment of the former Vauxhall Motors plant in Luton has been recommended for approval by planning officers.

The Goodman property group submitted outline proposals to transform the 36-hectare (89-acre) site in Kimpton Road, Luton, after vehicle production there ended in March 2025.

Plans submitted to Luton Borough Council's development management committee describe a mix of industrial, storage and distribution uses on the site that will include parking, landscaping, cycling facilities and a cafe.

Detailed designs for the buildings would be submitted in future applications if outline planning permission is granted.

The proposed development would be split into four zones: an innovation zone for small- and medium-sized businesses, a strategic zone for larger occupiers, a gateway zone offering more flexible uses, and a landscaped ecological buffer zone.

Goodman previously estimated the project will create about 2,400 jobs and could contribute almost £160m each year to the local economy.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the council's planning committee will consider the project at its meeting on Wednesday, 22 July.
