Auctioneer Coralie Thomson said she has "absolutely loved" working with the designer collection, including this Gucci coat and scarf

Most wardrobe clear-outs involve bin bags and a trip to the charity shop, but one East Yorkshire resident is expected to net tens of thousands of pounds from hers.

The woman, from Beverley, will auction items from her private collection on Friday including 20 designer bags, as well as shoes, scarves, sunglasses and other luxury goods.

The items, from designers including Chanel and Gucci, could fetch up to £40,000 according to the guide prices.

Coralie Thomson, from auctioneers David Duggleby, said: "It is an absolutely stunning luxury fashion auction. Ninety per cent of the items have never been worn because the vendor - who has an even bigger collection - simply never got round to them."

The Chanel 19 bag was the last creation of Karl Lagerfeld before his death in 2019

Thomson said the "star of the show" would be a 2019 Chanel 19 medium flap bag which is expected to sell for between £3,500 and £5,000.

She described the handbag, which was the last creation by designer Karl Lagerfeld before his death, as "one of the most coveted bags in the fashion world".

Two Louis Vuitton handbags are also expected to make between £1,000 and £2,000.

The goods are available to be viewed at the auction-house in York ahead of the online sale.

Thomson described the sale as a "unique event" and said it has created "enormous interest".

"It has been a brilliant auction to work on. [It was] wonderful to see the fantastic skill and artistry of some of the greatest fashion designers in the world," she added.

"I've absolutely loved it."
