A man has been taken to hospital with what police have described as a "potentially life-altering" head injury after being attacked at a city centre pub.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to reports of an assault at the Bankers Draft in Sheffield just before 22:00 BST on Sunday.

The force said the victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury that is "not believed to be life-threatening but is potentially life-altering".

The Bankers Draft, which is owned by pub chain JD Wetherspoons, remains cordoned off by police. Wetherspoons have declined to comment on the incident.

Witnesses or anyone with information about what happened is asked to contact police.
