Girl, 11, who died at beauty spot was 'happy, adventurous and outgoing'

An 11-year-old girl who died following an incident at a Midlothian beauty spot has been described by her family as a "happy, adventurous, and outgoing girl who enjoyed life".

Faith Curran's body was found in the water in the Gore Glen area near Gorebridge, at about 16:25 last Thursday. Her family had reported her missing in the area at about 12:40.

She was pronounced dead at the scene near Shanks Bridge.

Her family thanked those who helped with the search for their support and kindness and asked for their privacy to be respected.

Faith's death is being treated as unexplained, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

Police said inquiries remained ongoing and added that a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.

A number of tributes have been left in the park since Faith's death was first reported on Friday.

Gore Glen Woodland park is popular with walkers and has views of the nearby Pentland Hills.

Gore Glen was the site of Scotland's first industrial-scale gunpowder mill, which was established in 1794.

For nearly 70 years, the Gore Water was used to power 10 waterwheels.
