A man who was accused of burglary at a hotel housing asylum seekers has had his case dismissed.

Sam Burgess, 33, of Nelson Street, Norwich, had pleaded not guilty to burglary after he allegedly entered the Brook Hotel in Barnard Road, Bowthorpe, and stole a bottle of vodka on 9 July.

He also denied using threatening, abusive, insulting words and behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence against four men.

Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court said that on Monday, the cases were dismissed because no evidence was offered.

The defendant's legal costs would be paid from central funds, the court added.
