A motorcyclist is in hospital after he was deliberately rammed by a car during a robbery in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Police said the rider was knocked off his bike by a burgundy Audi estate in Bradgate Road, Newtown Linford, in the early hours of Tuesday.

One of the occupants approached the rider as he was lying on the ground, threatened him and demanded the keys to the black and grey 125cc Yamaha motorcycle before riding away on it, the force added.

The motorcyclist remains in hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.

Police said the rider was travelling through Anstey at about 04:55 BST when he noticed the Audi parked in The Nook.

He told officers he later spotted the car driving behind him and, as he entered Bradgate Road, the vehicle sped up and rammed his motorcycle.

Both the car and motorcycle were last seen heading towards Newtown Linford, police said.

Det Ch Insp Kevin Brown said officers believed there were five men in the Audi.

He added: "If anyone saw a similar vehicle this morning in the area, we would urge them to contact us.

"The motorcycle has the partial registration number FE70 and if anyone has seen this vehicle since this morning either being ridden or parked, we would like to speak to you."
