Domestic abuser kicked and stamped on woman's head
Cleveland PoliceA repeat domestic abuser who kicked and stamped on his girlfriend's head in his latest "shocking" attack has been jailed for almost five years.
Liam Evans, 34, frequently left the woman covered in blood and bruises, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
His own mother called the police during one of the attacks in which he dragged the woman across the floor by her hair and punched her multiple times in the face, the court heard.
Evans, from Hartlepool, admitted three counts of causing actual bodily harm and assaulting a woman who tried to help his partner when he attacked her in a Morpeth street.
He was jailed for four years and 10 months.
After the attack at Evans' mother's house on 28 November 2025, part of which was heard by 999 call handlers, the woman was left with severe swelling across her face and head, covered in blood from an apparently broken nose, and missing clumps of hair, prosecutor Imogen Eastham-Brown said.
Evans had fled from the house by the time police arrived but when they arrested him later, he told them to "prove it", the court heard.
On 3 February this year, Evans repeatedly punched the woman in the face in a street in Morpeth and hit another woman, who tried to help the victim, in the back of the head, the court heard.
'Absolutely shocking' footage
Again his partner was left with swelling and bruising around her eyes and on her neck, Eastham-Brown said.
The other woman suffered a headache as a result of the punch and said she had been left "wary" about trying to help other people, the court heard.
Evans was arrested and released on bail with the condition not to go near his partner, the court heard.
But on 30 June, police were called to a property in Hartlepool where they found Evans trying to leave from the rear of a house and the woman with a golf ball-sized lump on her forehead, the court heard.
Some of the attack was caught on CCTV which showed Evans dragging her along the ground by her hair, stamping forcefully on her head and repeatedly kicking, slapping and punching her in the face, the court heard.
The court heard Evans had 37 offences on his criminal record and was sentenced to 44 months imprisonment in 2022 for assault and robbery.
Recorder Georgina Nolan said all the attacks were "domestic abuse" and were "prolonged and persistent".
The video of the attack in Hartlepool was "absolutely shocking", the judge said.
